If your hard drive can not be recognized by the BIOS then i am sorry to say recovering data will be very high priced.

Try the hard drive in another PC as a slave and see if it will recognize.

If not your looking at about 3-5K for data recovery from the guys in a clean room.

contact ontrack and told them you need ur data recoverd badly. you will need to send your hard drive to ontrack and they will do it for you.
so the computer is still working yesterday? that's weired....
like john said, if the bios couldn't recognize the hard disk, then probably the drive is physically damaged.

Open your case and reseat the cable that runs to your HD. It might not be making good contact. It could be that simple

first try response number 6 and if you can get it to show up in bios then you have a few options. there are a few data recovery utilities that you can use. as well as a version of linux that boots completely off the cd (knoppix). that is ofcourse if it is showing up in bios but still not booting to windows. if you can get knoppix running you will be able to burn all of your important files to cd.

thank you everyone for your help

hi ryan, where is ontrack and how much will they charge for data recovery

s73invici, i can get to the setup page in that comp, the page that says Advanced CMOS setup Bios setup, etc. is there any thing i can do on that screen that will help it work? also i think i can put the product recovery software in but it will delete all of my old data which i need. when i exit that prod recovery screen by saying cancel it takes me to a command prompt for a:\ but when i say cd c:\ or c:\ it says something like invalid command prompt...
i also heard that restarting the comp over and over when you get this message will completely burn the hdd is that true?
should i then just leave it alone until i take it to a hdd recovery store or a technician because i dont know how to open or connect inner cables/parts.

if any one has more information i'd be so grateful
thank you,
adenine

You might just want to take it to a repair shop and ask them to diagnose the problem.

When in the BIOS, try auto selecting the drive to see if it will pick it up.
Make sure that you have boot to c: in the start-up boot options.
You could try changing the cable to the hard drive.
Always keep some kind of data backup or hard drive image. There are several options. Backing up to CD is great. You can image your entire drive when it's up and running perfect and then return the image - providing everything is compatible (software and cdrw). Or you can just backup my documents and my favourites if that is all you want using Easy CD Creator. There is also an online backup site that creates your backup for you and maintains it offline. It's a hard lesson to learn, but learn you must.
Good luck!
