That's normal if you're using a USB connection. Is the drive formatted?

Life's more painless for the brainless.

No, I can't find it! Only in Device Manager, I want to use it as a back up.

To answer the question Do I need to do anything ,like set master or slave?

If the enclosure is USB2.0 type, the jumper must be set to MASTER. If the enclosure is firewire (IEEE 1394 compliance), it doesn't matter if the jumper is set as slave or master.

I have one enclosure that only works if the drive is set to master.
But normaly it does't matter.

I'm just a shadow of my former self!

This is what I did to fix it. O.K., I partition it then assign a letter, them formatted it. Now it's working like it should. Thanks! It was a new unformatted drive. I think that was the problem, I should have said that at the beginning.
