So ive built my new rig, using Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe mobo, 8gb Geil 800mhz black dragon, AMD 9950, 700w psu and a Powercolor HD 4830

When i got power up for the first time everything comes to life, lights etc but no display is being given thru the gfx card :S. Ive tried all other pci-e ports and still nothing. Under closer inspection i notice the GFX card fan powers on when i power on the computer but then immideiatly powers off again and comes to a stop.

Any ideas? not sure if its the 4pin to 6pin powercable from the psu or a faulty gfx card.

Plz ppl, i wanna play farcry 2 :(

Ben

700W doesn't mean a hell of a lot. How about telling us more about your PSU, like make/model & the amperage specs on the +12v rail(s)? If it doesn't have a 6-pin PCIe plug, it's probably not a very good one.

its and Arctic Power 700w psu, got it off ebuyer.com. But that works for all the other components, i can hear the hdds come to life, and all the fans and lights come on

and the gfx card does power on, but then the fan stops after a few seconds, so unless its the molex to 6pin converter its gotta be the gfx card right???

Make sure you have the 4-pin ATX12V plug connected to the motherboard along with the 24-pin main ATX plug. And if your PSU has a 6-pin PCIe plug, use it...don't use an adapter.

Judging from what I've found, it's not a very good PSU:

the users that bought it gave it 5 stars, and thats around 40 reviews. But whats your diagnosis on the gfx card fan. When i turn on the system its obviously recieveing power cos the led on it comes on and the fan powers up for around 2 seconds, before slowing to a stop. The monitor is detecting the cable plugged in and i jus think the gfx card isnt sending out signals or somthing.

I have the same problem however I'm running a different rig.

Powercolor 4830
Dual opty 175
MSI A8N VM CSM (igp)
2 gigs ram
200gig HDD
Enermax Liberty 400w PSU

I just recently replaced my nvidia 7800gt with the 4830. However when I install the new card the IGP is the only display that works. The 4830 fan powers up and continues to run the entire time the machine is on. I know the card specs say it needs a 450w psu but that's not necessarily true. Most reviews I've sen say that it works with a good 400w which my psu is. I've removed all the nvidia drivers from the machine and isntall the ati drivers with no luck. It doesn't even show up in the Device Manager as an unknown device.

Any info would be appreciated.

bought another molex to 6pin converter which does have 2 molex connections, and ive sent back my gfx card to be replaced, hopefully that should solve the problem. If not ill be back, and i could have a bigger problem on my hands.
