power up

i just put together a new comp with a
P4P800 asus motherboard and 3ghz
processor p4.. now it started up fine while
i was settin up os install,then it shut off
on me. now it wont start up at all.
motherboard led is on when its pluged in
but when i try to power on it turns on then
off in a sec like a light switch..i also forget
to put paste on heatsink to the
processor....also now i did smell lil
warmth shall i say from inside when it
shut off in original start; now question is
what happen mother board falted
processor?please help.. still new to the
game thanks for anyhelp

Well, you either fried your CPU, or the back of your mobo is touching the wall of your case somewhere. I'd say you fried your CPU if you didn't put paste on.
