Ok, I just received my new Asus A8V motherboard today
along with a 480 Watt Power Supply and Athlon 64 3200+
processor.
Installed motherboard into my existing case. Installed
power supply as well. Installed Athlon 64 CPU and fan.
Plugged in my 512 MB DDR 266 memory to the specified
bank that the manual stated. Plugged my GeForce 6800
OC 128 MB video card into my board.
Plugged in all cables and power plugs.
Turned on power, hit power button, power came into my
machine, but my monitor remained black and the HD LED
stayed lit.
I checked the system wires to the motherboard and made
sure they were in right. I turned the HD LED around and
put it in the other way and the HD LED didn't even come
on, so I assume I had it in righ the original way.
I have unplugged everything one by one until the Video
card is left and screen is still blank.
I don't even get any POST beeps. I unplugged video card
and nothing beeps, power is still running to board. I
remove memory sticks and nothing still.
I unplugged the IDE cable to my HD from motherboard as
well as Power to HD and the red HD LED light stays lit.
I just received this board directly from manufacturer.
Could it be bad?
I tried the Power Supply Unit in my previous system before
I tried it in this new one and it worked fine, so I have no
reason to suspect PSU.
I forgot to plug a power outlet into my video card when I
initially started up system and heard this big constant
beep come from the unit. I immediately powered down,
but I'm not sure if I damaged it anyhow by not plugging it
in.
Still, that doesn't explain why I get no POST beeps
whatsoever. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I
don't want to take it to a PC repair shop, but I'm at my
wits end.
Thanks.

Did you test your motherboard before you put it in the case? Many posts like this end up being a short between the mother board and case because of improper motherboard mounting/installation.

I didn't test the motherboard before I put it into the case. I've never tried that before.
OK, FINALLY. Stupid me didn't notice another four pin connector on the motherboard, in the corner, that is supposed to be hooked up to the power supply and provide an extra 12v to processor if needed. Evidently, it needed.
So I feel prettty stupid for not reading through entire book before I began :) Been doing these for a little while now, so I get a little ahead of myself sometimes I guess.
But now that I can see things and the system recognizes my hard drive, CDRom, and Floppy, when I try to boot into WindowsXP it takes a lot longer than usual and when it asks for my Network password to log in, the keyboard and mouse both don't work.
Does anybody know if the AMD Athlon 64 3200+ is automatically enabled to run in 64 bit mode and I have to set it to 32 bit mode someehow or does this run simultaneously together and the system just determines which way to go? Because I'm unsure if it starts in 64 bit mode, then I somehow need to configure to 32 bit mode since I do not have an OS or devices that can handle 64 bit.
Also, I have a dual boot set up on my hard drive with Windows XP and Ubuntu installed. This has not affected any system peformance or become an issue in the past, but could it be one now?
I'm just so glad it's not my hardware at the moment. Now onto the next annoying step, booting up. I'm really hoping I don't have to wipe my hard drive. That has always been my motto in the past, to remedy any problem, but I have stuff on there I'd really like to keep this time.
Thanks for any help!

Thank you both for your responses. My machine was just lagging really bad which wouldn't cause the mouse or keyboard to be acknowledged by my system. It must have been as you said wizard, because I hadn't been able to install the new motherboard drivers for the system. It runs much better now.
Now I'm off to look for some new Dual Channel memory. I currently have 512MB of 266, Single Channel I believe because it is fairly old. But thsi motherboard supports up to 4GB of 400 Dual Channel memory so I'm thinking about getting 1GB. I imagine I will see much better system performance. Right now I don't notice much and I'm thinking it's because of the RAM.
Thanks street and wizard.
This is a great website.
