hey some weird sh*t happened last night,

I was surfing like usual, no heavy activities and then I had what seemed like a power surge (weird my area don't usually have these) so my light and pc flickered on and off and then my PC rebooted and lights went normal.
I went and checked if other stuff around the house were affected but they weren't. So i then thought why did it happen to my room?...
my PC had some problems rebooting (took ages) so i went into safemode and scandisk etc..
rebooted and it was ok 3rd time round.

So i was surfing again and wham it did it again but worse, went around the house and it seems only my room was affected. all the lights in the rest of the house were off anyways except for video recorder etc on standby.

So this sh*t me up, like some japanese horror movie... WHY ME???!!!! arghhhhhhh

right onto the more serious stuff... i already have a surge protector where all my PC plugs are connected to, But the surge protector i'm afraid were one of the earliest types (when they first came out) so rather old. I'd like to ask what type surge protector should i invest in what would protect my PC from surges and stop my PC from rebooting...

sigh, i thought my PC was fried when it didn't boot... arghhhhhh that feeling sucks... just think of having to invest in an entirely new PC :(**

You had a "brown-out" it's a drop in voltage. Could be all the people of your town turned on thier AC's at the same time, the power station popped a breaker/when off ine for a second. Could be anything. Just because nothing else in the house is on doesn't mean all the power in your house goes to your room, you only get so much voltage at the outlet. What you want is an U.P.S. it's a battery backup that will keep your PC running, (for 5-30 min. depending on which one you buy), so you can shut it down properly in the case of a full black-out or brown-out voltage dips. APC make some of the best; surge, line conditioners, batt. backups all in one.

For APC but there are many brands out there. Do a google search for "UPS".
