Hello!
When I plugged my usb external dvd device, I got this error message "Power Surge on Hub Port: A USB mass stoageDevice has exceeded the power limits of its hub port".
I use Compaq Evo N1020v laptop (Celeron 1.60 GHz, 256 MB of RAM) and IBM Mats---a dvd ram uj841s usb device.
I'd be very glad and thankful if the reply is e-mailed to shinthantko1@gmail.com. We have very limit to use net long.

Please...
Thanks.

Sounds like the drive is drawing too much power to spin up. You could try powering the drive with an external power supply (if it has this capability). You could also try connecting it to a powered USB hub and then connect the HUB to your computer.

USB devices may not work correctly when they're connected to certain USB ports, e.g. ports in a hub or on the front of a desktop case.

External drives require a lot of power, and they won't work properly in all possible USB ports you can plug them into.
