im putting together a general gaming PC.

changed mobo & CPU im ordering to a Intel core 2 duo E5200 2.5ghz w/ 4GB of RAM and a Geforce 8500gt (512mb of course).

Should a 450w PS suffice for all that and allow me to play some of those high end games like crysis for example without dampering performance?

be advised im sticking 2-3 case fans in it if i can for good air flow and cooling & using a dual core certified cpu fan

You selected an 8500GT & you're worried about whether the PSU will damper gaming performance? LOL!

1. the 8500GT is an entry level card at best & is NOT good for gaming...especially a game as intense as Crysis. Have a look at this Crysis chart. (hint: scroll WAY down toward the bottom for the 8500GT)

2. 450W isn't enough info. If you want an answer regarding the PSU, make/model & amperage specs are required.

3. you do not need 3 case fans. One rear exhaust fan (preferrably 120mm) is all that's necessary. And the CPU (if you're buying it new) will come with it's own heatsink/fan.

What motherboard will you be using?

well the geforce 8500gt is 1 hell of a step up from the visiontek x1300 i have been using over the past 2 yrs and even with that i was able to play crysis on low graphic settings quite fine.

and this is the PS i purchased

Not all PSUs are created equal.

Post the model of your 450W PSU. That said, 450W is smallish.

What is important is the amperage on the 12V rail.

You need at least 22A on the 12V rail, or so on a single rails PSU.

The CPU alone draws 95W = 8A. Your video card is another 8A or so. Then you have all the drives and fans.

The HD4670 is better than any card that you mentioned so far, but trash that $16 450W PSU before it trashes your entire system. And make sure you realize the HD4670 you picked takes up two slots in the case.

well after playing with my options i managed to squeeze in a 650w PS, an intel core 2 duo 2.5 (from wat i understand intel duo core is better then amd athlon x2) and the 8500gt aswell. but the 8500gt is only temporary. i am gonna buy a better card later down the road but gonna get the 8500 anyways cause im sick of my visiontek X1300 PCI card.

The E5200 is not a Core 2 Duo, it's a Pentium dual core CPU...there's a difference. For example, it only runs at 800MHz FSB & has just 2MB L2 cache. Desktop Core 2 Duos run at 1066MHz or 1333MHz FSB & have a minimum of 3MB L2.

The E2160, for example, is a Core 2 Duo with only 1 MB of L2 cache.

jam: Thanks for the clarification. I always thought that cpu's like the E2160 were Core 2 Duos. The link I provided indicates that, but that link is clearly incorrect.
