I need to replace my power supply as the fan is making an awful noise. I have never replaced a power supply before.

I note that my current power supply is a Hipro, do I need to get an exact model match?

If not, what do I need to look for in a replacement?

I like Antec PSUs.

Is your MOBO ATX or AT?

As long as it's not a Dell, HP, Compaq, etc. you can replace it with any store bought power supply. As the previous post stated, I too prefer Antec power supplies.

We can fix this, but you're gonna need a butter knife, a roll of duct tape, and a car battery

I'm not sure - all I see on the power supply is that it is a HIPRO Model # HP-A1463F5

If you're running a PIII it's an ATX power supply. Look for a quality brand name such as antec in the 400-450w range.

A good psu ain't cheap ($60-100) but well worth it in the long run. This site and many others have lots of posts that outline high quality power supplies.

Go to the search box above and type in psu for some of the previous questions just like this one.

Call sony and listen to their advice.

Then read this.

Ask Antec if their psu will work in your sony. Because it isn't a home made pc, form factor may be an issue.

Any new Antec is amazingly quiet and very cooling efficient.
Customer support is great, warranty is amazing, and it is so quiet you will think it doesn't work. Read the reviews your self.

Here is their official site:

Where did the post say it's a sony?
Or is Hipro used only on Sony?

We can fix this, but you're gonna need a butter knife, a roll of duct tape, and a car battery
