I am buying a new computer with above specs, good price, but it comes with a cheapo power supply so I will be replacing it.
My questions as to do with rails. I thought I heard somewhere here that 1 rail is the best. Newegg has a promo going on:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...

This models has 3 rails with the reason being that power gets distrubuted more evenly, which leads me to believe more rails is better.

I will be installing a new video card (radeon x1950) which needs power. Can someone break down the rail issue for me. I know how important the pwer supply is so i want to get it right.

Thanks in advance

The reason newegg is clearing that PSU out is because multiple rails have fallen out of favor. This is due to the fact that one of the rails is dedicated to the CPU. This can result in a power hungry graphics card being starved for power.

One of the resident members herre named jam is out inhouse expert. I'm sure he will eventually be around to explain it better than me.

The PSU you linked to may be OK but there may be better ones available for the same or less cash.

Totally incorrect. Here's why:

This PSU is not only better, it's cheaper:

BTW, why are you installing such an "old" video card...do you already have it?

Yes, its running in my current computer, is it time to upgrade? Since I am getting a Vista machine, should I be looking at a directx 10 card?

The original power supply I linked to at newegg has a promo going on now, 59 bucks, should I jump at it?

I put "old" in quotes because it's really not that old. If you're not concerned about DX10 support, there's no need to upgrade it immediately...you can always do it later.

The PSU you linked to says $130, out of stock. I have no doubt it's a good PSU, just realize that you'll have to manually balance the loading on the multiple +12v rails.
