There is no "maximum" for power supplies (as far as wattage). It's the minimum wattage you should be concerned about...

U meant max watt? When choosing psu watt don't matter look for things like efficiency eg.70% 85% the higher the better. How many amps in +3.3v +5v +12v rail.

Yeah, you can run a 1200w psu in a system that only requires 100w to run.

That's an extreme example of overkill but a system will only use what it requires; not the entire capability of the power supply.
