Solved Power supply for my Dell Vostro 230S

Specs: Windows 10, 3
I really need an answer asap, I am trying to get a new power supply for my Dell vostro 230 Slim(mini tower) computer which only has 250W ATX. I've heard since I have an ATX already any ATX would fit, is this correct? Because I'm trying to get something like this:

According to the specs, it will take an atx. This would be a good choice because of the single 12 volt rail. which is very important in a psu. I don't know if you need to go this big, it depends on what components you're powering. If you're not adding a new video card or cpu, you could probably go with a 430 - 450 watt unit. The corsair line is an excellent choice, or any brand name with a single 12 volt rail.

No, that's not correct. The 1st thing you need to do is clarify what you have - there is a Slim Tower & a Mini Tower, there is no "Slim mini tower". The Mini accepts a standard ATX PSU; the Slim accepts a TFX PSU.

The PSU you linked to is a low end piece-o-crap; you'd just be wasting your money. And why would you even need a 750W PSU for that system? Are you planning to install an expensive high-end gaming graphics card? If that's the case, why would you get a generic $37 PSU to run a $200+ card? Protect your investment (& your system) & buy something good.

I suggest you shop at Look for a brand name PSU with a single +12v rail with high amperage (over 32A). It should be 80% plus certified, have active PFC (power factor correction), & a warranty of at least 3 yrs. Corsair is a highly recommended brand. Their 430W PSU can regularly be had for under $30 after rebate. You can currently get it for $27 after promo code & rebate:

If you have a Slim Tower, you will have to get a TFX12V PSU. The choices will be few & the good quality ones are generally expensive. If you are planning to get a gaming graphics card, you will be limited to low profile cards because of the slim case, which means you won't even come close to needing a high wattage PSU. How about 350W for about $50?

The low profile card above has a max power consumption of 38W. Still think you need a 750W PSU?

Apart from ATX compatibility, power requirements, what connectors, and how many are needed for your system peripherals (Drives, Sound Card, etc), you need to pay attention to a couple of additional things here in regards to the physical orientation of the supply as it will fit inside your PC chassis. Not all chassis are fully cut out where you need those cutouts to be to accommodate any new compatible power supply. You need to pay attention to where the power plug socket will be, the 115/220V switch (if any), and the on/off switch (if any), as well as where the power supply fan will line up when everything is installed. Even when it appears there are the necessary cut outs, I have purchased supplies before that just don't quite line up with the plug and switch cutouts of the chassis. And as a result ended up having to modify the chassis which can be a nasty business. Additionally, most supplies your going to upgrade to have fans located on their side. The supply your most likely replacing has its fan located at the back. Ideally, as I understand it, you want that fan facing to the outside of the chassis so its not competing for air with your processor and GPU or blowing hot air inward. Well, if there are no holes where your supply goes in the top or bottom of the chassis what are you going to do? You don't want to mod any holes into the top of your case, not just because its going to look ugly but because you don't want anything falling through there. As a result, I have installed supplies upside down (lettering at the back of chassis, upside down) and fan facing inward - blowing inward. Now maybe you can get a plastic channel to channel air in from the back of the case idk. Anyway, that's just my experience with upgrading power supplies. Take a careful look at it is all I'm saying.
