I was on my pc 2 days ago & in the middle of everything the power just shut off. I tried to reboot the pc & the fan spun up about 2 seconds & nothing. Everything else in the room, lights etc were on, never went off so I know the power didn't go off in the house. I assumed it was the power supply so I bought another one. Installed it, turned it on & no picture came on the computer just a humming sound. Power supply fan was going but nothing. I hooked the new power supply in another pc & the pc booted normally. Question is, when the power supply failed did it damage my motherboard because it refuses to boot again.

It may not have been the power supply. You will have to individually check both RAM and CPU in a separate machine to be sure. If the PSU, RAM and CPU all function properly in another machine then the mother board is more of a suspect but until you can determine this by process of elimination it can be difficult to say for sure. Once you do get things going, keep a close eye on both the processor temp and your computers voltages for a while to make sure no other underlying problem exists.

Power supply unit wouldn't boot another machine I installed it in so I suspect that was it. Tried the sound card in another machine, couldn't get it to work either. Can't get the motherboard to work at all with another power supply but the power supply does come on. Still dont understand why the power supply failing might would harm the board though. Guess I will just throw it away.
