Are you certain it wasn't power surge that may have damaged your PSU? A power outage isn't as destructive as a power surge. Have you used any power surge protector at all?

What's The Difference Between A Power Surge And A Power Outage?

Thank you, XpUser.

I think it was just a power outage. Anyway I called the DELL service. They asked me to use a different power cord. It works. Now it returns to normal. Thanks.

Well that was a bit of luck.

I would still look for and connect a surge protector for the future......

and little known or recognized fact.

If you put a knot in the cord to your surge protector a lighting strike will usually discharge out the knot instead of hitting the SP.

Won't help on a surge though....thus the need for the protector.....ButI have yet to see a surge protector that will stop a lighting strick.......like a knot will.

Well glad to see you lucked out and only the cord got toasted........bet it was in a 90+ degree bend.

worldlibrary, I'm no electrician, but isn't a ground wire enough to prevent a lighting strike from entering the electrical system and frying a component? If not, what's it for?

Life's more painless for the brainless.

Hi, World Library.

Thanks for your advice. I need to purchase a surge protector. In fact I have one in another room that is connected to my TV. By the way, could you tell me what a knot is, please? Thanks.
