Comment: I'm a tech at a company. A user brought in their Compaq Armada 1750 for me to wipe and put on a fresh OS install. Supposed to be no big deal. The machine gets through installing Win2K and at the end it restarts the computer. The computer restarts and immediately prompts me to put in the power on password. WTF?? I had rebooted many times previous to this and no such password was ever asked for nor was it ever invoked within the Bios. Compaq support is no help either. These evil demons proudly boast that they cannot give out the information on how to reset the bios to turn this feature off because it would be like give anyone total access to anyone's computer. Whatever. $#@$^#$%!! them! I have scoured the internet and seen many posts on this board and others about this same issue. I located a battery under the keyboard and disconnected it for about 2 hours hoping that would do it but still the same thing. Is that the right battery I'm looking for? Does anyone have any information about this at all? The user that brought the laptop in was told it would be a couple of hours because it should have been. Now I have to make up something to keep them at bay because Compaq is a bunch of digusting hognosed bulldog sandmaggots that I get sick in the nose. Sorry but I'm so angry right now and frustrated. Thanks for any info!

Reply: (edit)Get the motherboard model and find the board layout online, find the bios/cmos reset pins, and arc them together using a jumper/screwdriver or any other conductive piece of metal.

Reply: (edit)I have used this little program to erase the bios on a 486 and find it useful. You need to enter new values for all the bios settings to restart the PC. You don't need to reinstall Windows. Download killcmos from: http://www.utilitygeek.com/details.php?fileid=82 Copy the program to a boot disk and run it from a dos prompt. Good luck.

Reply: (edit)Thanks guys for all the info and tips. I tried them all and after several failed and frustrating attempts, I came to a conclusion and ended this tomfoolery once and for all. I proceeded with great force to smash the living hell out of this laptop until its parts burst asunder.
