Power Connector on SATA drive

Do SATA drives require a different power connector than IDE?

Yes, at least most. I've read some still use the normal molex connectors but most use newer smaller ones.
But you can get adapters for the molex connectors!

Newer PSUs should come with the proper connector and the Drive may come with an adapter.
