Comment:

Can I start a computer if the power button on the CPU is not working ?

I think I've eliminated everything else, new power supply etc.. Checked cables etc.

Other than getting a new case, does anyone have any ideas ?

Can you remove the sides from the case and see the rear of the power button ?
If so, use small insulated needle nose pliers (or paper clip) to short the two wires connected to the PB. If PC does not start, identify colors of the wires and trace to bottom right of your motherboard.
Motherboard is marked "Power Switch" and has a bunch of pins sticking out (reset switch, HD LED, Power LED, etc. Make sure the two Power button wires (colors !) are properly connected with thier sleeves to the motherboard pins. If so, remove a piece of insulation from each wire and short circuit the bare portions together. If that works, replace the power button. If that doesn't work, your motherboard or power supply is defective.

hi boyfromcork... I took a common microswitch and connected the power on wires to it. I Attached the switch to the m/b via the 2 pin connector and through the small space in front of the case hid the new switch just under the front case panel. It worked fine for me. Just be careful not to break the new switch. SSSHHHHH...please don't tell anybody you read it here!!! Temporary at best.

take the front cover off and press the button that the cover button presses

new cases with 400 watt power supplies are only 25 to 45 dollars with or without plexyglass windows on the sides

A defective motherboard will prevent the system from powering on.
