Whenever I turn on my computer with my USB mouse plugged in, POST takes ~5-10 minutes to boot. This conflict is really annoying me. When I unplug the USB mouse before turning on the computer, it's fine.
The mouse is just a generic Dell USB mouse (N-231???) and the motherboard is an Asus P4B 266-C (Rev. 1005, 08/06/2002).
Should I upgrade the BIOS to Rev. 1006? The release notes don't make any mention of USB problems being resolved. Or, should I just live with this cranky Asus BIOS that doesn't seem to get along with my mouse?

Have you tried it with other USB mice?
Does this occur with PS2 mice?

Yes, I have tried other USB mice. PS2 mice work fine, not hangups whatsoever. Yes, I could switch back to a PS2 mouse, but I'd still like to solve this problem (if possible).
You could use a USB to PS/2 converter...I just use my USB mouse like that so I can save USB ports.
You might want to look through your BIOS settings to see if something's wrong (IE: all the IRQ settings should be set on auto, etc).
You can try flashing if you want, but if the changelog doesn't report any usb fixes, then it might not help you.
My sister's computer's bios was severely updated, but the latest bios version causes her computer not to be able to see hard drives or optical drives lol. I had to flash a former bios version to get her computer back up.
