Hey everyone,

Not too long ago my computer was having some problems and wouldnt boot up, I searched and I ended up doing a repair and its been pretty much fine but then I had to do another Windows XP Repair to get rid of another problem.

I know I got rid of the problem but whenever I boot up my ASUS Power On Self Test says "CPU Fan Failed" and I know it hasnt failed.

How can I get rid of this message? Thanks!

Is your smaller chipset fan working?
This seems to be a common problem.
You can find almost any replacement
part for ASUS at the below site.

How can I check if its working, is it just a fan on the motherboard?

You must have the fans connected to the proper 3 pin header on the mboard, e.g. the CPU fan to the one for the CPU fan, and there must be 3 wires in the female connector from the fan to the pins.
If the cpu or case fan does not have three wires or has two wires and is not connected to the header at all, disable the warning for that header in the bios setup settings.

Outside of that.....
- there are several different types of rpm outputs - some are not sensed by some mboard hardware monitoring chipsets.
- if the fan spins slower than the minimum the bios code defaults expect, the rpm may not be detected at all (e.g. common with the one for some power supplies that have two fans). Take a look at the bios current rpm readings - if it says zero rpm that's the case - you can disable the warning in the bios, and use a software hardware monitoring utility in Windows instead that can detect the the lower fan rpms. I'm not sure whether Asus Probe can do that or not - if it can't there are freeware utilities that can detect low rpms.

Ok thanks guys, since Tubesandwires mentioned that I think i know what it may be.

I remember powering my heatsink/fan through a different power connector than the motherboard, that must be why I keep getting the error. =) Ill look in the bios but i dont remember seeing a way to disable warnings for certain headers.

Yup, all rpms are at 0 in bios.

disable CPU Fan Failed warnings in the bios, if the fan can work.
