I made a program to make this easier. Downloaded it from my website http://franciscolopez.webs.com/prog... Inside is a jar file and a README file. The program creates all the commands for all the possible drive letters enabling you to just double-click one file to fix the flashdrive without you having to type the whole command.

hi guys i need ur help badly. all my files and folders on my flash drive have been changed into shortcuts. i tried to recover using the 'attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.* ' pescibed by tomek but it didnt work. i was told the 'access denied' for all the files that were displayed. how do i retrieve my files back? please help. its urgent thanks

attrib_-h_-r_-s_/s_/d_g:\*.* In the above, each underline is a space. When you type in the command don't put in the underline, but make sure you put a space there. Also make sure you specify the correct drive. In the above, G: is the drive. Make sure you change the G: to whatever your flash drive letter is. Real men don't use AntiVirus; they just reformat

hi all. My name is joe from Kenya. My 500GB external hard disk had the same problem. All my folders were turned into shortcuts. Weird thing was that if i used avafind (software used to search any file in your computer) to look for a file in the external HD, it found it, even opened it! but i couldn't move/copy any file. I identified the culprit as a virus/malware/spyware (not sure what it is) by the name gxkoir.scr. So i started looking for solutions. Ran a full anti-virus search, downloaded some anti malware software, nothing worked. So i just googled and found this here forum....did the attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.* command and voila, it displayed all my files including the main exe. culprit gxkoir.scr Thanks a bunch Tomek.

hi.... i too got the same problem and i solved it successfully with the below code.follow these steps.. 1.start 2.run 3.enter the command attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.* 4.press enter 5.change the letter g with your flash drive destination and wait for 2 minutes and open the flash drive. your data will be regained and now delete the shortcuts

my name is bharath i have a problem of my usbport. Actually when i connect any pendrive or cardreader to the system instead of showing the files it is showing only shortcuts. and i have tried by formating it and when i again copy somefiles and eject time shows cannot remove using somewhere and when i remove it like that whenever i re connnect it again shows shortcuts. I had the same problem twice, my first encounter was in 2009. I connect my portable harddrive to one of my friends computer. Suddenly all my files turn into shortcuts. I try scan with three different anti virus software, none of them works. no choice but to format my harddrive. Second time was in 2010 same thing happen, but I discovered something my computer still can read the available space and use space on that harddrive. So I figure that I still have a chance to recover all my files. Here's how to recover your file 1 Open your file on your portable harddrive. 2 Left click once to highlight the file that you want to recover. 3 Right click and click properties Before you continue makesure to know your portable drive location. For an example your portable might show on (E:) Drive or (F:) Drive. 4 Modify Target. Note: if your Portable drive is in (E:) Correct location look like this "E\My Picture Wrong location look like this "E\sas.vi My Picture 5 Click OK 6 Go to your portable harddrive and open your files and save everythig inside the file to your computer or another portable drive. Then use Avira AntiVir to scan your infected portable drive (delete all virus found). Format after your done scaning. 7. Put everything back to your new clean portable drive.
