I added another 60 gig maxtor harddrive to my system(XP PRO) and the log off and on sound now pops and schreeches and static also have this in games .Is not as bad in media player. I disabled the drive in device manager and no change. Only way to make stop is to unplug harddrive.I have onboard creative sound blaster. The extra hardrive was installed on the main IDE as slave. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ron Watts

Sounds a bit like speaker interference to me. I've had that happen to me a couple of times - and it was usually solved by moving the speakers around, i.e. as far away from the drives or the PC as possible. That other drive may be generating signals that cause some minor interference, or perhaps the drive is physically located a bit closer to the speakers. I've actually seen this happen with mice too. Whatever it is, it's nothing serious.

Above replies are good, but is there a possibility that the hard drive and/or its mounting casing is not earthed. Good luck - keep us posted.

This seems to be an issue with the Gigabyte GA-7VRXP. Other people in other forums where having the same problem with only one harddrive. I was able to install as a master on IDE 3 with the RAID enabled .It works fine and there is no more conflicts with the sound. Only drawback is it takes longer to bootup as it wants to build a RAID array for about 15 seconds and then goes ahead and boots up Thanks for all the Help and Replys Ron Watts
