Hi there,
I had a computer come in the other day which had apparently made a loud "POP" noise for the client before it promptly switched itself off, I decided to hook it up and see if I could repeat this and within a couple of seconds after turning it on I got the same thing, assuming it was the PSU blowing (thanks to the noise, and awful smell) I took it out and replaced it, fired up perfectly BUT...every single LED on the front lit up, CD-Rom, Floppy, Hard drive, Power, etc...everything lit up, I didn't hear a single thing spinning except the fan on the motherboard and it didn't POST either, just a blank screen....the PSU is fine because I use it everyday, also when I take the hard drive from the system and place it in another system it isn't recognised, am I to assume from this that the PSU blowing took the motherboard and everything attached with it?

Remove all cards.
Remove memory, cpu and ide connections.See if you get beep code. (speaker must be known working)
If so then maybe start putting things back one at a time.
Use ESD protection and be careful of any live energized circuits. If any doubt about safety then get a new system or have a qualified service tech work on it.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

Thanks jefro,
And if I don't get a beep code after removing everything?
P.S - This computer is SEVERAL years, bought in around 1998 I believe or perhaps even earlier.

Don't remove the cpu. There'll be no beeps if you do. Removing the memory will give memory error beeps--if everything else is OK. Best to leave cpu and memory in and instead disconnect all drives and remove all cards except video. If it posts then one of the removed or disconnected items is the likely culprit.
The hard drive not being recognized in another system may be due to wrong jumper settings, wrong connection, misidentifed in cmos/bios setup or being too large for the bios to see.
