I've been attempting to retro-fit this Dell Dimension 4300S system to be a media center-type system. I have two main issues:

First, I have noticed occasionaly lag or dropped frames when viewing TV. My assumption is that I need to upgrade my graphics adapter. (RE:http://computing.net/hardware/wwwboard/forum/35315.html for this discussion). Is this a correct assumption? Will a better graphics card (say, a 128MB model) help prevent choppy TV viewing?

Secondly, I'm trying to find the best software to manage TV, DVD, Music, and Photos. I've started with a trial of Intervideo's Home Theater 2. I've got the remote for it, and I must say it's pretty good, save two issues I can't resolve. First, it won't save my cable channels, so I have to re-scan every time I restart the program. Second, DVD playback is very dark...you can barely make out most of the scenes in The Marix. When I play the DVD using WinDVD5 on the same system, it looks fine. Any suggestions there?

Lastly, based on the specs of this system, am I wasting my time with this? I got it free, so I figured that if I could put $200 into it to convert it to a media center, that would be cool. The Dell service tag is 5ZDB511. It's the 400 FSB model. I've upgraded to 512 Ram and added an MSI TV@nywhere tuner card and a DVD-Rom Drive.

Thanks for any comments or advice...

Correction, ONE of my questions was answered...thank you for that. I'm just "trolling" for some additional advice on this little project that I'm working on. Thanks for any suggestions regarding my other questions.
