I have a Time Traveller laptop with a Mats---a CD-RW CW-8121. General CD access seems to be very temperamental. When playing games or opening folders stored on CD-roms, the drive often spends ridiculously long periods of time (15mins plus) whirring and clicking without any drive-lights or apparent screen or CPU/RAM activity. Most of the time, I get bored of waiting and have to shut everything down. DVD playback is also extremely poor, even at low screen/colour resolutions, with choppy video and distorted audio.
I have experimented with everything suggested in Windows XP "Help and Support" section, and have tried disabling my Virus checker, etc, but to no avail.Time Computers are completely inaccessible via any form of communication other than a really lame e-mail facility hosted on their website, which only deals with very basic problems. If your computer is more than 30 days old (even though it might still be under guarantee), you have no other option but to ring a premium £1.00 per minute help line, and may be responsible for any transport charges that arise as a result of repairs, etc.
Can anybody PLEASE help me out with my drive problem, so that I don't have to give any more of my hard-earned money to the con-men at Time Computers?
