Hello. I have an eMachines T2984 desktop with currently has 512MB of OEM RAM. The memory is DDR PC2700 and there is one slot open. I went to BestBuy and bought a stick of PNY D512MPC320PT which is PC3200/PC2700/PC2100 compatible. I put the memory in and booted the PC up and I got 3 beeps and no monitor output. It failed POST. With the memory out, though, it boots fine. I tried it with/without the OEM Memory in AND in both Memory Slots. eMachines Support says that I need "eMachines Certified Memory". Is this true or did they just want me to buy it from them? I went onto PNY's Memory Configurator and it says that this RAM SHOULD work with my system. Also, I exchanged the Memory at BestBuy for a different module (same model though) and the same thing happens.
