Hey everyone. I am running into a problem wit my pc...it keeps turning off for no reason. I know there was a thread a few months back about this,,,but that thread doesn't solve my problem...so here goes:

For a while my computer was turning off for no reason. It was driving me nuts. Well, I went out and bought the best power supply that Best Buy sells (Antec TruePower 430 Power Supply) - http://www.antec-inc.com/pro_details_powerSupply.php?ProdID=20430 - and all was well.

Then about 2 months later the computer starting turning itself on and off again. I replaced the power supply with a new Antec (same model) and the problem hasn't stopped. It is driving me nuts.

I am running:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe MB
AMD XP 2000+ Processor
1.5 GB of Crucial DDR 2100 Memory
3 Western Digital Hard Drives
1 Plextor CDRW drive
GeForce 4 MX440 8X AGP w/128 MB DDR

This is driving me insane. I have taken out everything I don't abolsutely need to ensure that there isn't a short,,, and it still shuts off at least a couple times a day.

Any ideas guys? Any help is really appreciated. Thanks.
-Chris

This is probably a long shot but i had a problem with my computer doing the same thing. It turns out it was my network card. For some reason when i took it out it never did it to me again. You might also want to check for over heating. My compter will still sometimes crash if it overheats.

Well, as far as the network card goes....I took out every PCI card that I didn't need. This didn't help.

And I don't think it's overheating because I have a fan on my cpu, graphics card, case, and I have the case open. It's sitting on my desk, and has plenty of room to vent. I can almost assure you that it isn't overheating.

Any other ideas?
Thanks for the help,
-Chris

I have one question. When your PC turn itself on and off, does it happen the same time each day you use your computer? Otherwise, you might be setting the waking/sleep option in the BIOS.

No...it happens all throughout the day. Last night it happened at 10:30 at night, then again in the morning, then twice in a 15 minute period earlier this afternoon.

I don't get it.

could be the motherboard shorting out on the case..

what is the cpu temperature? there might be an option in the bios which makes the pc shut down when the cpu has reached a certain temp.

Hi "computer starting turning itself on and off again. "

if it is turning itself back on, try a different AC power source ie: change house outlet , power cord ,power strip if you use one.

When it turns off, is windows shutting down or comp just quits? does it start back up by its self?

Well, so far it is working perfectly. I went out and bought 1.5 Gigs of the biggest, baddest Kingston memory on the market. It was $199 per stick. I got 3 (512MB each). So far that has seemed to solve my problem.

I will keep everyone up to date. Thanks for the help guys.
