Pioneer DVDRW drive not working
Name: brophyd Date: August 1, 2006 at 08:06:49 Pacific OS: Windows XP Home CPU/Ram: Intel Celeron M 410 512 M Product: Compaq Presario V5207NR
Comment:
I just bought a Compaq Presario V5207NR, and I can't get the DVDRW drive to read anything off of any type of media (data cd, music cd, or DVD). I see nothing on any disc I put in. I've tried uninstalling it, restarting Windows and letting it find it. Still nothing. Drive is a Pioneer DVR-K16. I've tried a firmware upgrader from Pioneer's site, but it doesn't recognize it as such. For some reason when I plugged a USB hard disk in, the AutoPlay feature tried to run on that.

Did you check the physical connections for this drive inside the computer?

It is important not to have an optical drive connected to the same IDE cable with anothe optical drive. Make sure it is set to master jumper settings. Make sure you have the power supply plugged in correctly.

Could you explain this logic? I've done it for years and never had an issue.

No, haven't opened it because I just bought it and didn't want to void anything in case I could have it replaced or something. I'm kinda new to laptops. Normally I would open it up and check. Anyways, in Device manager it has been saying it is working properly. Now here's the locations according to the device manager: DVD drive Location 0 (0), HD Location 0 . Is it normal for both devices to be Location 0?

Smart move. If under warranty let the manufacturer handle it. If the drive is removable just be sure it is seated correctly. If the drive is removable there may be a setting in the BIOS for it.

I haven't had any problems either, However I have read some documentation with New CD Burners about possible problems in doing so .. hence I have stopped installing two optical devices on the same IDE cable .. google it if you don't believe me!
