Comment:

I've just bought a used CD-RW Philips CDD4801/65. The past owner assured me that it worked ok.

Then it was installed to my machine.
Whenever a CD was inserted, it sounded 'clk.. clk.. clk.....(several times)' and then stopped. It did not read.

Windows detected that the device was working properly. Would anybody know what seems to be the problem ?

Thanks

The problem is you believed the seller when he said it worked.

Don't ever buy used parts that are mechanical in nature without the seller showing you that it does indeed work.

Actually I was expecting a technical answer, rather than condemning my stupidity..

So, is there somebody out there that could help me?

Thanks

It sounds like the problem is the laser failing to achieve focus, thats what that clicking you hear is, the attempts the lens is making to focus the beam on the disc. It could be caused by something as simple as a dirty lens, or it could be the laser diode itself is too weak to work anymore. Will it even read a factory made CD? Try cleaning it 1st, don't use one of those lens cleaning cd's tho, take the top off and carefully clean the lens with a q-tip and some alcohol. then try it again, if that doesnt work, post back.

Jeff

Thank you Jeff, I appreciate it.

I have opened the CD-RW and rained the lens
with alcohol. It still didn't work.
Maybe it is just a crap CD-RW.

But I feel great.
This was the first time in my
history that I opened a CD-RW.
Breaking the seal, and saw what the inside looked like.
