MSI 6712 KTV4 VIA KT400/2400XP;
STARTED OUT WITH MAXTOR 40GBHHD MASTER (c:),WD 3.2GBHDD SLAVE PARTITIONED (d:&e:) ON IDE 1/ GENERIC CDROM MASTER(f:), LITEON DVDROM SLAVE (g:) ON IDE 2.

I REMOVED THE WD DRIVE AND REPLACED IT WITH A NEW SEAGATE DRIVE. USED SEAGATE DRIVE WIZARD 2003 TO INSTALL; ALL SEEMED FINE.HOWEVER.. NOW HAVE ADDITIONALLY IN DEVICE MANAGER 'GENERIC DVD-ROM SCSI CDROM
DEVICE' AND ALSO 'SCSI AND RAID CONTROLLERS'> ST3SHARK SCSI CONTROLER'.
'MY COMPUTER' SHOWS 3 X CDROMS WITH DRIVE LETTERS E,F AND G.
ADMIN TOOLS/DISK MANAGEMENT SHOWS CDROM 3 TO BE DRIVE E ON SCSI: PORT 2 TARGET ID: 0 LUN: 0
SYSTEM INFO/COMPONENTS/STORAGE/SCSI SHOWS DEVICE ID TO BE PCI/ST3T41\0000.

AS FAR AS I KNOW MY SYSTEM(HARDWARE) DOESNT SUPPORT SCSI/RAID.. I HAVE TRIED UNINSTALLING THE SCSI CONTROLLERS/ SCSI CDROM, BUT WINDOWS JUST REINSTALLS
EVERYTHING WHEN NEXT REBOOTED.

I TRIED DISCONNECTING THE TWO REAL DVD/CD ROMS AND REBOOTING, BUT I STILL GET THIS PHANTOM SCSI DVD/CD AS DRIVE E. MAYBE ITS NOT ACTUALLY CAUSING A PROBLEM, BUT IT AINT RIGHT EITHER!

boot the computer to safe mode and remove entries under
floppy drive, disk drive and cdrom
then reboot and it should auto install
that's not as effecient as editing the registry but sometimes works

Next time post using lower case mikeb. Upper case irritates some people. Common usage is that upper case is the same as shouting.
