Comment: http://computing.net/hardware/wwwboard/forum/22553.html Is that true, Pentium M 1.4Ghz can almost outrun a Pentium 3.2Ghz? I have read the P4 M spec. it isn't too good.

Reply: (edit)I have not looked at any comparison tests, but I doubt it. The centrino is faster than its 1.4 rating because of its powered, full 1mb (instead of 512kb) cache. It is designed to balance between low power consumption and speed, not just out-and-out speed.

Reply: (edit)I see, so it's cache, speed, and power consumption are the only difference?

Reply: (edit)It might generate less heat as well (tied to less power used). You can get the full Mfr specs of both chips at Intel.com. There are a lot of facts you might find interesting.

Reply: (edit)also, bus speed is slower. The centrino has a 400mhz fsb, the p4 3.2 has a 533 fsb. I am sure there are other differences between the two architectures.

Reply: (edit) p4 3.2 has 800fsb. Pentium M is a total different design. Much more effecient then P4. It is not as fast as a 3.2ghz 800fsb but i believe a 1.4P M is about equivilant to a 2.4ghz 800fsb P4. This is from the results i seen that of a athlonxp 2200+ mobile compared to Pentium M. Pentium M was by a fair margin in the lead. The Pentium M is in no way similar to the Pentium 4 and it was designed my Israel's engineers. Professional reporters speculate that if Prescott fails to compete with the upcoming Athlon64s intel will result to using its Pentium M design(dual core) in desktops. Lastly Pentium M's concept is similiar to the Athlon concept. Lower speed but more effecient
