The P3-1000 would be faster. I have a P3 1.33 that encodes MP3s ever so slightly faster than my P4 2.0
But I'd choose the celeron, because it could be upgraded to a much faster socket 478 P4.

if the p3 1.33 is faster than the p4 2.0 at encoding MP3s then the there must be other factors I reckon in the p3 being faster - like better mobo, more/better ram. I can not see how a p3 1.33 can actually be faster at MP3 encoding than a p4 2.0 in a straight comparison. I would go for the celeron 1.7 instead of p3 1.0. Although a celeron is a poor mans pentium, i reckon the 70% faster processor speed more than overtakes the usual advantages in Pentium over Celeron. (and more upgrade options as stated in other reply)
Summary: Hi all I know there have been variations of this question, so please forgive the redundancy: I have a Dell Dimension L500cx computer with an Intel Celeron 500 Mhz processor, 320 Mb Ram (I upgraded it...
Summary: I believe that if the cpu is a socket 7 then it would be classified as A pentium but if it is a slot 1 then it is classified as Pentium 2.intel started the slot 1 CPU's at 233 then 266 300 and 333 (Al...
