I read in another forum that the PCI-E x16 and the PCI-E 2.0 were reverse compatible. Basically complete opposite of each other so no I dont think they are because I wondered the same thing, kind of cheat the market :)

"Basically complete opposite of each other"

Huh?

"The PCIe Base 2.0 specification supports both 2.5GT/s and 5GT/s signaling rates, in order to retain backward compatibility with existing PCIe 1.0 and 1.1 systems"

http://www.pcisig.com/news_room/faq...

"PCIe 2.0 is completely backwards compatible with PCIe v1.x. Graphic cards and motherboards designed for v2.0 will be able to work with v1.1 and v1.0, and vice versa. In some rare cases it is possible that a PCI-E 2.0 card will not work correctly on a PCI-E 1.0a slot. This is only limited to certain video cards"
