I went ahead and bought a GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 graphics card to upgrade from a 7900GT, but I don't think that I'm getting full performance out of it.
I ran 3DMark06 to compare it with a friend's machine. He has an 8800GTS/5600+ and scored 11404. my Core 216 and AMD 6000+ only got a 11244. We both have the same amount of RAM and OS, but my motherboard only has a PCI-E 1.1 slot and he has a 2.0. Is this why my card is slower than the 8800GTS?

His motherboard is based on a better chipset. Even though PCI-e 2.0 has twice the available bandwidth of PCI-e 1.1, I kinda doubt it has anything to do with the difference in scores. And even though he has a slightly slower CPU, BIOS settings may come into play. If one system is manually configured for best performance & the other is run with default settings, that can make a difference too.
If you look at this chart, the gap in scores between the 8800GTS & GTX 260 isn't huge.
Summary: Hi guys would the 9600GT work in a PCI-E 1.0 slot? dumb thing to ask but better to ask then to get it and be s--- outta luck. "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when w...
