I have a Lucent Quadrabus PCI to USB 2.0 card plugged into a AOpen MX36LE-UN motherboard, and the card is not working. My two onboard USB 1.1 ports work, but when I remove a working USB device and plug it into the USB card, XP tells me that the USB device has malfunctioned and should be replaced. The card works in my other XP box. I have copied the driver files (usbhub, usbohci, usbport, usbui.dll) from the working box and placed them in the proper area in the not working box. I have removed the card, removed all the drivers, reinstalled the card, and been told the new hardware is installed and ready to use, but USB devices are not recognized. I am sure the PCI slot is fine because I have removed a working PCI card (firewire) and used that slot with the same results... Please help.

I could be wrong but "Copying the driver files" into the "correct place" may not be the same as "Installing" the drivers. Did the card come with a driver disk? If not then I suggest you download drivers from the maker and INSTAL them.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

You don't need drivers if you are running XP SP1 or SP2. Have you upgraded toeither sservice pack? If not, you should start there.

Thanks for your replies. XP is fully updated in my good box and I have gone to windows update with the card installed hoping to recieve a software update for the card with no luck. Oddly, the card works in my un-updated older machine. When I contacted the manufacturer I recieved a brief email stating that XP does not need external drivers for this card. As mentioned in the original post, I have removed the card and the drivers, then reinstalled the card. Both XP boxes state that the pci card has been found, then installed and ready to use, but newer machine does not recognize USB devices, while the older, slower machine does recognize and use the exact same devices (webcam and flash drive) using the "problem" PCI card. Though copying .sys and .dll files to the quicker box is not the same as installing, I thought I'd give it a shot since the card worked in one and not the other.
