I currently have 512MB of PC2700RAM in my comp. I want to upgrade to 1024MB. Do I need to add another 2700 stick or can i add a 3200 stick to go along with the one i currently have? Also, do i have to add RAM made by the same company as my previous one?
Also, my CPU has a FSB of 800 Mhz if thats at all important. Hope you guys can help.

you can add a stick of 3200, but it will only run at 2700. you should get 2 sticks of the 3200 so you can run it in "dual channel". you can ad ram from different companies. and the 800mhz bus does help, that is why i say go get 2 sticks, so you can have your cpu and ram bandwith the same. if you had a 533mhz bus, you would want to stick with the 2700. if you had a 400mhz bus you would want 2100 ram.

p4 3.0ghz @ 222X15=3330mhz
512mb pc3200 dual channel @222mhz
80gb wd hdd/40gb maxtor when on linux
8x agp geforce 6200 @ 530/585can't unlock extra pipes. plz help if you can

The cheapest option is to add another stick of PC2700, this can be run in dual channel mode but won't give you the full performance, for that you would need 2xPC3200. You can add sticks from other manufacturers but this can lead to instability if they arent exactly matched (CAS Latency etc) so it is always adviseable, if possible, to use 2 sticks that are exactly the same.
Don't forget to check your MB supports PC3200, otherwise it will only run at PC2700 speed anyway.

Yes in support of not mixing manufacturers... get the same ram or as compatible from the same mfgr, and I doubt you would see that much difference between 2700 and 3200 anyway, as the jump to 1024 will be noticeable whatever ram you use. I have seen cases where the same ram but from different batches did not work together. You are far better off getting new ram so you know it works and right now Newegg has a gig of Corsair 3200 val;ue ram at $79, a price I doubt you will beat anywhere.
