Hello, My Compaq Presario 5650 has worked fine for 3 years but now I cannot start it anymore. This has happened after the pc has not been started for a month.
The Compaq Presario 5650 has undergone no changes since it was bought.
What happens is the following: When power is swithched on both the fans start as they should. The keyboard lights up. However the monitor receives no signal and none of the drives try to start nor can I see that they have any power (e.g. nothing happens when I press the eject button on the CD drive). In short the pc does not even get to the BIOS start routine.

Did you try to put a new CMOS battery on the motherboard?

During those 3 years, did you ever open the case & clean the dust from the inside?

Thanks to all who replied. I'm pretty sure that itmdtr was right when he pointed to the CMOS battery as I already tried the other suggestions with no luck.
Compaq/HP has confirmed to me that unfortunately this is one of the models where the CMOS battery cannot be changed. It is welded/glued to the motherboard. There's no clip or similar. (really, really stupid design). I'll therefore have to scrap the pc.
