I recently got this pc from a friend and I got it setup and when I press the power button nothing happen. No fans, lights, or noise nothing. I'm not sure what it is was wondering how to troubleshoot before buying a power supply.
I just went back and double checked if anything was unplugged or in the wrong spot and found that I had disconnected the power sw/power led/hdd led. I dont know where to put the led's but I put the power sw in the correct spot and now it powers up but shuts off seconds later. the fans (psu/back case/cpu) turn on and the cd drive.
I shorted the power supply with all drives and fans (without mobo and case) everything went fine. The psu was running consistently. Now I connected everything and shorted the power switch pins (to make sure it wasn't the pw switch) and the pc started running but shut off shortly after (seconds). So is it safe to say its the mobo or would it have not distributed power to the fans etc.? I dont know enough to tell, but I do know that without the mobo everything stayed on. Could it possibly be the cpu?
