PC won't POST

After I turn on my PC, the fans start up, the motherboard LED lights up, but there is no beep to indicate a successful POST and no error beeps. There is no video signal. I tried disconnecting the monitor/hard disk to see if I could force an error message but with no result.
For a couple of weeks prior to this, my computer occasionally froze for a second, then powered off.
