PC won't open Office 2007 documents

Microsoft Windows vista business w/ sp1...
July 28, 2009 at 07:40:24
Specs: Windows Vista, 1.8 GHz / 512 RAM

Vista PC showed a blue screen and error message "serious memory error" and seems now unable to open any Office files stored on the harddrive, it opens pdf files though. Re-installed Office 2007, however, that didn't help.

Any ideas ?

Many thanks

Did you try testing your memory with memtest86, memtest86+ or Windows Memory Diagnostic?

512MB of RAM for a PC running Vista is pretty inadequate. Throw Office 2007 on top of that, and i'm not surprised you're having trouble.

Test the RAM first just because it's the step that costs no money. If your RAM fails memtest then go buy all new RAM. But even if your current RAM passes memtest, i'd still recommend bumping your system to at LEAST 1GB, if not 2 or 4.

Many thanks for your suggestions. The memory diagnostics says everything's fine, I will now try upgrading to 1 GB and reinstall Vista.
