I've added a pctel platinum v.90 modem to my HP pavillion, and it won't even detect it, it works fine and is detected when i place in my compaq. I also have a lucent win modem installed but it doesn't seem to dial. I've checked it and it says it's working properly. Also the win modem goes into an agp slot and ia refered to an n Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to ISA bridge (ISA mode) what do i do to make these work?

all i can say is there is no modem that fits into an agp slot. your motherboard has isa slots, not agp. agp slots accept video cards only.
the processor on that board is too slow to detect the pctel modem.
not enough ram in that box either.
even tho diagnostics says a modem is working, it won't if its hit by lightning surge or other electronic problems.

FYI both your WinModems relies on System Resources to function, your PC does not have enough resources period. You need a Hardware Modem, preferably external serial.

FYI "82371AB/EB PCI to ISA bridge (ISA mode)" has nothing to do with you modem, this is part of the Motherboard Chipset Software and the AGP Slots are for Graphics Cards only.

IMHO it may be time for you to go to HP and find a manual for this PC!

You're running XP with 48 meg of RAM? How did you manage that?

I don't know why, but I've had problems using compaq modems in other PCs. There's no reason that should be, but it happens.

Take the non-working modem out. Uninstall its drivers if necessary. Then try the PCtel.

There's no reason it won't work in that PC--well other than the compaq jinx.

WinXP with just 48MB RAM must be painfully slow. 128MB is the minimum recommended, although M$ says it will run with 64MB with limited functionality.

The modem is the least of your worries. Either add more RAM to bring the total up to 256MB or format the HDD & install Win98.

No matter what you decide, you'll have to take the other modem out (& uninstall the drivers & any other software related to it) before you can try the PCTEL piece 'o crap.

FLATURIN - Hand-to-mouth goodness. It's good!

Heh - - *not* an AGP slot - - must be a CNR (Communications and Networking Riser)
