Comment:
I do not usualy turn my PC off, just let it hybernate. Sunday afternoon I shut it down to let it "rest" and now when I power it on it won't boot. the lights for the floppy & disk drives blink like they usualy do then I get two beeps and nothing. I checked the beep codes for a compaq and it says two beeps is a "general error", "unknown". I'm going home tonight to open it up, make sure its clean and things are all snugly in place. Can you just point me in the right direction, what should I look for? I'm not a Tech but am pretty handy with a PC and am not afraid to take it on. Thanks to your site I've been succesful in fixing problems on my own. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Check the PSU it may be dead now. So if you can get hold of another test it with that.

have you tried going into safe mode on bootup?

A desktop PC IMO should NEVER have the option to hibernate. That is basically something for laptops.

Like was mentioned, the power supply might be gone too.
Let us know if safemode works

Maybe hibernate isn't the proper term, it is a desktop PC.

So, I took the side panel off and cleaned it out and started it up by itself and no beeps but still no boot so one by one I plugged each periferal in and restarted it each time and no beeps but no boot. Finally the last try it booted and the windows music played etc but....the monitor never came on, the light stayed orange. So I think it's the monitor. I'm going to try a different monitor. I'll let you know what happens.

It is more likely the power supply than the monitor I would say.
