My PC won't boot back up after plugging it back in one day. There was a "ticking" sounds when I plugged the power cord back into my PC, then no boot, no POST, no nothing. I have gone through a process of elimination, removing expansion cards, memory, and so forth. I have swapped out the power supply with a known good one, still nothing. I have also tried the HD in a known good PC, but it still wouldn't boot. But I also tried a known good hard drive in the suspect pc and it wouldn't boot then either. I am at a complete loss. Someone please help.

It's your motherboard. If your memory works in another computer it's your motherboard. Just buy a new one... or replace the one you have with one just like yours if you like it alot.

Also... buy a new fan.

I had the exact same problem and had to replace the motherboard and it wasn't until I replaced my old that I recalled unhooking one of my fans for a while (before I really knew a lot about computers and temps and stuff.) I think I fried it... it would come on sporatically when I would get the monitor on and bang on the keys and mouse repeatedly during the first few seconds of getting it to power on.

I'm willing to bet your BIOS Settings had your fans set to off in Suspend Mode... which is probably what your computer is stuck in. You may want to try clearing the CMOS by moving the jumpers (read your MOBO Manual).

In any event... make sure you add fans to your system... get a good cooling system going.

Do your fans come on at all? If they do then you know for sure it's not the powersupply.. but like I said.. I think it's your Mobo. You can't go wrong replacing it and you can troubleshoot the otherone at your liesure.. and maybe build a second PC if you get it to work.

Thanks Dethlok... I was thinking it was the m/b but wanted to get a second opinion. Actually, the old p/s is dead now too. But at least I have my drive with all my goodies on it. I guess I'll end up building a new one, its time anyway.
Thanks again
