pc wont boot with 2nd hard drive

Specs: Windows XP, amd sempron 2800+
have fitted 2nd HDD to computor. It wont boot past bios. If I Unplug the drive system will boot sweet as. I can then plug HDD in and OS (windows xp) will auto detect and give me acces. If I shut down and try to re-boot system fails.Iv set jumpers on both HDD. Have gone into bios setup and HDD is detected as you would expect. Bios is pheonix v6.00. Am I forgetting something. mobo doesnt have any jumper settings. Any ideas???

You've given us very little to go on. No motherboard make/model, nothing about the hard drives (SATA or IDE), etc.

That leads me to believe they are IDE drives. If your board has 2 IDE channels, the HDD with the OS should be the primary master & the 2nd HDD should be on the 2ndary channel as either master or slave. Make sure to use 80-wire IDE cables & do NOT use the cable select jumper setting.

Sorry bout the lack of info. Tried your suggestion of running HDD as secondary slave. Yae this has solved my problem. I dont understand why I cant run the second HDD as Primary Slave and my first Hdd as Primary Master. Yes they both IDE drives. Mobo is a foxconn K7S41MG and has a sempron 2800+ 2ghz 754 cpu. Yea I know cheap and nasty but it works for what I do.
