Hi, i have a really annoying problem with my computer and unfortunately the company that sold it has ceased trading, so no help from them then. Hopfully someone here therefore can. If i boot up my computer and it has not been on for say, a day, it will often boot up fine and everything will work ok. However if i then turn off the computer but want to turn it on again, say an hour later it will not work, all i get is a "no signal" message on the monitor, the computer does have power running through it as the fans are working but it does not get as far as checking the floppy drive in the boot process. The only way to get it working again is to leave it off and turned off at the back for sometimes a day or two at a time. Then it will mysteriously work again. This as i m sure you can tell is extremely annoying as i just have to leave the thing on, so any help is much appreciated.
My computer is: P4 3.2ghz, 1024 mb ram, ATI Radeon x600 (i have tried other graphics card incase this was the problem but no luck) 160 gb hdd, PCI Audio card, 917GBAG motherboard, Windows XP sp2.Thanks

Sounds like a complicated problem. First of all, how long has this been happening? Is it since you got the pc, or have you installed anything recently (since the last time it worked fine)? Another question is do you hear a BIOS error code (beeps at startup), as often on, that will guide in the direction of what is wrong. Another idea I would try, is if, and ONLY IF you are an experienced computer user (both software + hardware), I would disconnect different components one by one, to see if the computer will work fine. However if you're down to the basics (Mboard, Memory, Hdisk, floppy, graphics card) and it still doesn't work, there must be some kind of hardware issue (or a defect/damage). But first, before you do anything, see if you can upgrade BIOS, as often that helps a lot of compatibility issues. Here is a link to where you can get the BIOS update http://www.machspeed.com/m775_917gbag.htm

Yeah, has been happening since i got it. There are no bios error codes, it does nt seem to get that far, as the computer only power ups the fans and checks the dvd drive. there are no beeps, not even the sound of the floppy drive being checked. Could it possibly be the PSU unit not having enough power, unless from a very cold boot. It is a 500w dual fan unit though. Also could it be a battery problem ie a flat battery? I ll try to flash the bios if i can get the thig to boot up, however any more advice would be grateful. Cheers

You shouldn’t need to boot the computer to flash the BIOS. If you can’t even boot to your BIOS then you it is a hardware issue. Your PSU should be plenty at 500W regardless of boot style.
I was thinking it could be a heat related problem- this is only a guess. Maybe whatever ‘heats up’ takes a day to ‘cool off.’ Try running your PC with your case open and maybe even a room fan running on your hardware.

Hello, I had the same problem. Things I did was to check the ram, make sure it was good. Check to make sure your video card is also good. If it is an onboard video card, try installing one to see if that fixes the problem. At one point I disconnected everything, modem, all the cards, all the drives except the hard drive and still nothing. In the end I removed the cpu and noticed it was not seated properly. Maybe you can check all of that.. if nothing else, it may be the motherboard.
