Since my HP m7664x Media center midtower was so cramped, I bought an Antec 900 and tranferred everything over to there. When I turn it on the PS fan, and cpu fan comes on for a second and then shut off. It will not run at all. This was tried with just the PS and mobo plugged in and no fans or other devices and still will not run. Then I hooked up everyhting inside the case and still will not run. It did this with a 300w PS and a new 530w PS that I just got.

The 300w came with the HP PC. The HP PC worked fine the last time I used it. I took out all the ram and tried powering it on with just the PS and the 12 pin connector and still no dice.

Could be a number of things wrong. Original PSU & MBoard could be proprietory. Case standoffs in wrong positions. Front case wiring could also be proprietory or connected wrong. Extra power connector not connected. Voltage switch on PSU set to incorrect voltage. Graphics card not fully seated. Damaged components from static discharge.
FYI, computer won't POST without any RAM. May get a error code.
If not beeps at all my guess would be proprietory stuff or standoffs.

Graphics card is not in yet. I put in a 550w mad dog PS after the 300w. I tried using a screwdriver on the jumper and I got the same result. The standoffs are in the right positions as in the old case. I have 2 power connectors connected to the mobo. I used both voltage selectors and got the same result. I don't think it is a static discharge problem. What about CMOS or the round battery? Could that be the problem?

All you did was R&R the guts, correct? Should be no need to clear the CMOS. This computer was running prior to the R&R wasn't it? Don't know about HP as far as compatiblility with standard PSUs. If you are in an area that uses 120v AC then trying both power settings shouldn't have a negative affect. If you normally use 220V AC and you tried to use 120V AC you probably have fried something. What 12 pin connector? PSU connection should be 20 pin or 24 pin.

Duh, I meant 24 pin. The PC was fine prior to the R&R. It just doesn't make any sense. When I bought the HP, it had a 300w HIPPRO ps. I bought a 550w Mad Dog modular ps mainly because I got a EVGA 7950 GT with PCI express and I knew that the 300w PS wouldn't cut it. Last week a painting fell down and hit the plug that goes into the ps and my PC shut off and wouldn't restart. I took out the 7950 GT and put in the old 300w ps and it booted/ran just fine. So I figured the 550w ps was bad. The HP case was super=cramped so I got the new case and put in everything except the 7950. The case came before the new Raidmax PS so I tried running the pc with the old 300w ps and it did the same thing as it does now. I thought maybe 300w wasn't enough power even though I only had the mobo, dvd rom and hd connected and the 300w powered that same configuration in the HP case. I got the new 530w Raidmax ps today and it still will not stay running. I hooked up the Mad Dog ps to it on a whim and now it will start and run but will not boot, so I think the SATA plug for the Mad Dog PS is bad. But the 300w ps should make it run.

Raidmax PSUs suck. MadDog is a repackager, not a manufacturer. Find the UL number on the side of the MadDog PSU & enter at the following search site, then you'll know who actually made it:
http://database.ul.com/cgi-bin/XYV/...
"I hooked up the Mad Dog ps to it on a whim and now it will start and run but will not boot"
What does that mean "it will start & run"? Does the system POST & does the POST screen display on your monitor? Are you able to access the BIOS & make changes?

"I hooked up the Mad Dog ps to it on a whim and now it will start and run but will not boot"
Means that the pc fans start running when I press the start button but the pc will not boot up or POST.
The Mad Dog PS was a great PS until the painting hit the plug in the back. It was a huge painting. I really don't care who makes it since it was a good PS. But to humor you, it was Super Flower that made it.
If RAIDMAX PSU's suck then why did mine have so many great reviews on New Egg? Oh I suppose that New Egg sucks too. I guess I would take you more seriously if 'Ow My Balls' wasn't your homepage.

I think you're inferring way too much from these homepage links - - they're not necessarily an actual 'homepage' y'know

Censorship is the tool of those who have the need to hide actualities from themselves and others. Their fear is only their inability to face what is real.

I'm just tired of people telling me that something sucks in their opinion but tons of other people like it. If it had got nasty reviews, I would have bought something else. I am not a first time visitor. I couldn't remember my login info from the last time I came here for help a couple years ago.

I read on here that you can take the mobo out and hook up just the monitor and keyboard and turn it on using a ballpoint pen on the power jumpers. So I did that and I got this after the setup screen:
ERROR: System Fan Has Failed! Service PC to prevent damage to the system. Press <F2> to continue.
Is this the cpu fan that has failed even though it is running?
I got this result with the new 530w and the 300w, but the mad dog 550w didn't work so it obviously is broken.

On the HP site I found instructions on how to remedy this. The system fan and cpu fan are running so I don't understand why I am getting a system fan error. I disabled the system fan check and will see if that fixes the problem. My new case has 3 120mm fans and a 200mm fan on top of the case.

The reviews at newegg are written by customers, not "experts". Their opinions should be used as a loose guide only. Try cruising some of the hardware review websites & see if you can find one that has a Raidmax PSU in their test group...then see how many have tested Super Flower. Super Flower/TTGI (Traditional Technology Group, Inc.) makes quality units, Raidmax generally does not. I don't expect you to take my word for it, afterall, I'm just an azzhole in a forum. Try googling it....
"I guess I would take you more seriously if 'Ow My Balls' wasn't your homepage"
Did you bother to click on it to see where it actually takes you? It's a YouTube clip from the movie "Idiocracy".
BTW, can you explain to me why you need "3 120mm fans and a 200mm fan on top of the case" other than saying "that's what the case came with"?

That's what I expected you to say.
Anyway, I put the mobo back in and hooked the psu to it and I still get the same problem. Why can I get it to POST outside of the case but not in it? Tell me that and I'll visit your homepage.

You should be using the bare minimum for testing...motherboard, CPU w/HSF, one stick of RAM, video card w/monitor, PSU, & keyboard. Nothing else. If the board POSTS outside the case (meaning that the POST screen is displayed & BIOS is accessable via keyboard) but not when you put it back in the case, you probably have a standoff in the wrong location & it's shorting the underside of the board.

Thank you. I will check that out. The HP case had rubber standoffs but the new case has brass. How tight should the mobo screws be? I didn't crank them on.

If your board has 7 mounting holes (for example), you should use 7 brass standoffs, no more.
You don't have to crank on the screws...just snug them up.

Sorry OtheHill, you and jam were right! I had 2 standoffs in the wrong place! Woohoo! Thanks so much! You guys rule these boards. I hope you guys do this for a living.
