PC turns on than off than on than off, repeatedly

Specs: Windows 7, AMD Phenom X4 9750 / 8GB
I need help troubleshooting a problem on a PC. My friend was using my Window Vista AMD Phenom Processor with 8gb ram. He said it randomly shut off. Everytime we press the on switch it turns on for 2 second and turns off than it turns on and repeats. When it turns on the LED light on the button lights up than goes off when it shuts off. The fans start spinning and also stop when it shut off. I don't know much about computers, so I will like help to diagnose the problem. Thank You!

So this just out of nowhere started happening? Did you friend go into the computer and change something?

If your answers to that were no, then have you had any power problems lately?

It sounds like your processor or board may have a short in it. Are there any beeps when it powers on?

To me it sounds like a faulty power supply. Something may have been fried in there, and it will only work for a small amount of time before failure. The reasoning to this is that the fans aren't directly controlled by the processor (ACPI in Operating Systems will control their speeds) so they should keep running if the processor failed. I've used a computer with no processor inside. When I plugged it in, all of the fans still turned on.

Your best bet is a new PSU.

I agree with RMT2, I hate to say it because of the situation, but he's right.

I do also honestly believe something in your system is fried. Your best bet now would be to get a motherboard to replace your current one.
