Hi all, all of a sudden the PC wont turn on.. i put together this pc a week ago and installed xp on it, now when i plug power into it, it turns on, but the monitor goes from 'green' light to 'yellow' light on standby. The computer seems to work, everythings working inside by the sounds of it, fan spinning etc, but no display comes up. any help would be greatly appreciated.

it used to work fine...

Have you been overclocking it? tweaking with BIOS settings? could be you've selected an incorrect FSB.

Some modern boards have a restore settings function in the BIOS, it is activated by tapping INSERT before POST.

If you don't have this function, you will have a jumper on the motherboard to clear CMOS, short it for 5 seconds.

It could be your graphics card. Check your moniter cable is plugged in firmly. Try putting your GFX card into another computer. If it works in the other computer its your GFX card that's causing the problems.

i had this problem a while back on a mates system

sometimes hardware will cause this

first of all id try taking 1 peice of hardware out...until your display comes on

on my mates it was his 56k modem stopping his screen coming to life....once id removed it....voila

tried that...i have nothing apart from a 56k modem inside it.
tried changing graphics cards, nothing, tried changing sticks of ram, nothing.

the monitors got the connection to the pc, and another connection to the power, is that right? i remember my old old monitor used to connect to the pc aswell for power.

Pull all the cards and disconnect all the drives to eliminate them as the problem. You should get a beep when you power on. A single beep indicates that the motherboard/CPU and power supply are ok.

If that doesn't work try another using another monitor. I've had a faulty agp slot before that's done the same thing but could be different in your case.

Try sending it back to the place you bought it. Or else give AMD a buzz and see what they think.
