Solved PC stand by with NO stand by option?

July 3, 2011 at 07:14:04
Specs: Windows XP
My computer seems to go stand by occasionally and uncontrollably and I cannot wake it even though I hear it working (the screen is dead but computer's still on). It doesn't answer to mouse, keyboard nor the power/restart buttons. The only way to restart it is by unplugging the PC and then starting over. This situation is reccuring more and more often.
Also the stand by button on start/turn off is fade and unavailable and on Control panel/power options tab there is nothing below the "turn off hard disks" configure setting.
Once I had a trouble with BIOS but I don't think it's that matter this time.

More likely some hardware problem.

It may be that you could re-seat any connections and cards.

I'd look to the video card or built in video as the problem.

It never hurts to reload the entire system back to OEM just to prove.

It is also possible that if you set bios settings too far off default it could cause this.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

I shouldn't have to ask BUT - do you have a desktop or laptop? If it's a desktop, you shouldn't be using standby. Please post the make/mode of your system.

It seems that you mickliq haven't read properly what i had written. I'm not trying to use stand by - it's turning to stand by by itself and won't awake.

jefro tnx for the reply.I'm not that keen on hardware though, so I'll ask someone to check that
