Comment: Right, my PC has been shutting itself down for a long while now and it is driving me insane. It started on an old machine that i had about 1.5 years ago. One day, windows is shutting down and off. This happened repeatedly so i re-installed windows, same thing kept happening. So after 6 months of farting around with it I decided seeing as i was planning on building a new one anyway to build a new machine with all new components. Fine for about 3 months, then when i installed a new DVD re-writer (Pioneer DVR109) the problem resurfaced. Have all the right drivers etc. have checked all the memory with memtest 86, and the HD's with Powermax. It still shuts off in safe mode but not in the BIOS, then it'll stay on which i guess rules out the power supply. I now have both machines old and new practically unuseable. They do sometimes stay on for a while though, sometimes for weeks. however when the shutting down starts it seems to be there to stay. I know many people have had this problem before but no one seems to have a solution that works for me, any advice would be wicked, cheers.

Reply: (edit)Overheating or a bad/weak power supply. What are your PSU specs - what brand, total wattage & how many amps on the +12v rail? If you don't know, look at the label on the side This space for rent
