Hello everyone,
I have just recently built my very own PC made up of individual parts that i purchased. It is basically a top-of-the-line PC and I am almost positive that I did everything right because i encountered a few problems that i then fixed. There is a problem that seems to be persistent, though, which is that the system shuts down automatically every time i boot up after a certain period of time that isn't constant. For example, (i haven't installed an OS yet btw because of this), I turn on the PC, access the bios, move to access the boot sequence and as soon as i do it turns off. Another example is if i put the windows XP CD in and it says : boot from CD " it turns off alone by itself. So PLEASE THIS IS URGENT i want to make this PC work because i've spent a lot of time and money on it..Thank you VERY much and appreciating your efforts ASAP :d

System specs would be a good start. What PSU, RAM, mobo and cooling scheme are you using? Because it can be any one of these four items.

Oh hey thanx for replying i'm using thermaltake silent purepower 480W power supply...and btw i live in the middle east so the power setting is 230/240 here ;P .. i'm using Corsair DDR2 1GB memory, motherboard is MSI 925 XE ... and cooling is the 7 FANS in the thermaltake Xaser III case... :) hope this helps ;P

Sounds to me like you have great components but one of them is a defective Motherboard. I had 3 in a row from Msi with 875 chipsets so I moved back to asus.

Wow..this sounds really bad do you really think i should switch my motherboard? it would be really difficult to do that right now..and plus i'm really comfortable with the one i have now and there shouldn't be anything wrong with it. I was wondering if there was more a problem with the power distribution and number of devices on each power connector. Yes, i think that it's probably set to 3 out and 4 in and i have the CPU fan that looks like it's blowing at top speed...i can't change these settings though i can never get that far bil bios :/

rule # 1 - always test a motherboard before installing it in the case.
Since you apparently didn't do that, disconnect everything but the CPU w/HSF, video card, one stick of RAM, & keyboard. That means, no HDD or optical drives, no PCI cards, no cooling fans, no mouse. Make sure your case wiring is correct, the RAM & video are fully seated, & the HSF is installed correctly. Then reset the BIOS by either the ClearCMOS jumper or pull the battery for a few seconds (unplug power cord when doing this)..then see if you can bootup & access the BIOS. If you can, go directly to the Hardware Monitoring section & watch your temps. If all seems well & you don't lockup, run thru each & every BIOS setting & adjust as necessary. Then start reassembly. If this "barebones" approach doesn't work, you've narrowed the problem down to the board, RAM, or PSU

Asus A9550 128MB/128-bit

Good Call Jam, I always do that at the first sign of trouble.
I just doubt here that the PSU, ram, or cpu has anything to do with this....

Hi,
Are you using intel stock HSF ? Did you remove the HSF away from the CPU a few times ?
For your info the intel original HSF green colour thermal pad can only be used once. Once you remove the HSF away and before re-attach, you have to re-paste a brand new thermal pad or put a extremely thin layer of thermal compound (like artic silver 5).
